RC Airplane Design Calculators

Use these calculators to turn design decisions into usable numbers. Each one fits a specific moment in the method, when you need a weight target to anchor wing loading, or a drawable planform to take to the drawing board.

Available tools

Mission Weight Estimator

Estimate a target flying weight from mission and wingspan. Use it before committing to components, it gives you a realistic weight range to anchor wing loading and avoid building toward a number that won’t fly.

Wing Chords Calculator

Calculate root chord, tip chord, and MAC from wingspan, wing area, and taper ratio. Use it once wing area and taper are decided, it’s the step where ratios become dimensions you can draw.

How to use these tools

Start with the mission. Then use the calculators to support the design decisions already made.

A useful order is:

  1. Define the mission.
  2. Estimate the target flying weight.
  3. Choose wing area and wing loading.
  4. Calculate the wing chords and mean aerodynamic chord.
  5. Check balance and stability before locking the layout.

Numbers come after decisions. The calculators are here to make those decisions easier to test.
